ScarJo ‘wants to have it all’

Scarlett Johansson hopes she can strike a good work/life balance when she becomes a mother.

The Her actress announced she was pregnant with her first child earlier this month.

But in a new interview conducted before the revelation, it seems motherhood had been on the star’s mind for a while.

“It seems so stressful to not be able to spend time with your family because you're constantly chasing the tail of your own success," the 29-year-old said in the April issue of WSJ magazine.

“There must exist a world in which I can balance those things, be able to raise a family and still make a film a year, or work on my own, develop things, do theatre. I want to be able to have it all. Selfishly.”

Scarlett is expecting her baby with French fiancé Romain Dauriac. The Captain America: The Winter Soldier star admits she knows she will have to compromise at times when it comes to being a working mother.

“I know that with that [balancing children and her career] there will be some sacrifices," she said. "I know that's the struggle with working mothers and successful careers. It happens."

With an English speaking mother and a French father, the new arrival will no doubt speak both languages.

But it seems Scarlett herself needs to work on her French before she can start teaching it to her offspring.

“When you're in a relationship with somebody and you're communicating with them, you want to be as clear and concise as possible," she explained. "We try to speak French a little, but it's mostly like, 'I like this sandwich.' 'That's a nice colour.'"
