Scythe scene pleases Poldark fans
Millions of viewers enjoyed a third instalment of Poldark last night - with most appreciation reserved for the scenes in which Aidan Turner disrobed.
Irish actor Turner has won legions of fans with his brooding role as Ross, who returns from the American War of Independence to find his father dead and his love interest engaged.
Sunday night's episode, in which Ross finally kissed his servant Demelza, averaged 6.2 million viewers on BBC1, winning its 9pm slot.
A BBC spokeswoman said that with five more episodes to go in the current series, it was too early to say whether there would be a new season.
The second episode saw Turner's character go for a naked swim in the sea.
Sunday night's third episode featured Ross working topless with a scythe in a field, a scene which drew plenty of comment from viewers.
Carrie Lou wrote on Twitter: " I think Mr Poldark should come and do some gardening for me. I would be happy to hold his shirt!"
Mel Salisbury added: "Demelza needs to burn every single shirt that Ross Poldark owns."
But Sarah Turner said: "Getting cross about Poldark now. Wonderful story but what a waste of time if all anyone cares about is how he looks with his shirt off."
Meanwhile, it was reported in the Sunday Express that Turner had got engaged to his girlfriend, TV and stage actress Sarah Greene .
A source told the newspaper: "Sarah is perfect for him, she's very protective. Both of them don't really go for the glitzy side of showbusiness. They're happier spending quiet evenings playing Scrabble."
