Selena Gomez: Fans support my film choices

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez believes her fans will understand why she filmed Spring Breakers.

The risqué movie sees the former Disney Channel star take on a rebellious character, who joins her friends on a wild holiday.

It might seem a bold move for the 20-year-old star, but she believes more mature fans will support her decision once they see the film.

"My fans that are my age, I went to Toronto and we premiered it at the festival and there were girls my age that were laughing at the parts they needed to laugh at, scared at the parts they needed to be scared at," she explained to MTV News.

"And I feel like I didn't even give them enough credit because they understood what this film was. It's an art piece and it's real, it's so raw, and I think they're going to understand why I did it. I mean for the younger fans, maybe they'll wait a little bit, but I don't know. I think it was a good thing for me and my fans were super supportive."

Adverts show Selena and co-stars Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine posing provocatively in bikinis.

Although she's excited for people to watch her in the movie, she advises her younger supporters to give it a miss.

"I do everything for my fans," she assured.

"I know that I have a younger following and I so appreciate that and I'm so thankful for that. But I did warn them in my best ability as I could. When I see the parents I'm like, 'Maybe [your children] don't go and see this one.'"
