Sharon Stone gives love lessons

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone shares what she's learned about love.

The 55-year-old actress is better equipped to let things go as she's gotten older.

When it comes to matters of the heart, Sharon shared the life lessons she now lives by.

"Mostly I've learnt to let the negative things out of my life," Sharon told UK magazine Hello! "I think happiness is what's important to remember, and that any of us might see something that we think looks like love, but then we have to ask: 'Is it really bringing happiness to me, my family, my life?' And if it isn't, then we release it with love and grace. It's as simple as that."

The Basic Instinct star has three sons who live with her in Los Angeles. She admits she was raised by parents much stricter than she is with her children.

"We knew we'd better do what we were supposed to do," she explained.

"The language kids use today, I say to my boys: 'You know, if I had talked like you are talking now, my mother would have washed my mouth out with soap.' And she would literally do that. Don't get me wrong, they were great parents. It was just a different time back then."

The actress plays an older mother in her latest movie Lovelace which co-stars Amanda Seyfried.

She previously told the magazine how it is a relief to be cast as a less glamorous character these days.

"When I accept a part in a movie I don't accept it because the character wears nice clothes. I accept it because it's an interesting and complex character," Sharon said. "It took a lot of discipline for me to learn to be beautiful in movies, and these days I'm quite happy to do without it."
