Sharon Stone: I was an introvert
Sharon Stone recalls her struggle with her body image in the new issue of America’s Shape magazine.
The 55-year-old actress has been thought for years to be one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.
But she admits she’s wrestled with her body image throughout her career, particularly after she needed medical procedures that caused her to gain weight.
“When I was 20, after my horseback-riding accident, I was given cortisone shots and I gained a lot of weight from that, like 45 pounds,” she says in the March issue of America’s Shape magazine. “I just wanted to die and I became an introvert.”
Sharon compared her looks to one of the most voluptuous models of the time.
Despite others insisting she was stunning, the Basic Instinct star still wasn’t satisfied by what she saw in the mirror.
“I looked a little like Anna Nicole Smith, with a tiny waist, big boobs, and a big butt. Everywhere I went, men went insane over my va-va-voom body,” she revealed.
Since then, Sharon admits things have changed.
But aging even into her 40s was a daunting process plagued by self-loathing.
“There was a point in my 40s when I went into the bathroom with a bottle of wine, locked the door, and said, ‘I’m not coming out until I can totally accept the way I look right now,’” she confessed. “I examined my face in the magnifying mirror, and I looked at my body, and I cried and cried and cried… I thought, ‘I’d like to age like a dancer.’ I want to keep my body in shape like that.”
