Shaw back on stage after collapse
Actor Martin Shaw will return to the stage on Monday after recovering from an illness which led to him collapsing during a performance.
Shaw, 65, spent a night in hospital after passing out during Wednesday afternoon's performance of The Country Girl in Shrewsbury.
"I am so glad to be back treading the boards again," he said.
"In all my 45 years on stage being taken ill during a performance was a first for me, and one I certainly do not wish to repeat.
"A chest infection had got the better of me before the antibiotics had had a chance to kick in."
Shaw plays washed-up actor Frank Elgin in the play, alongside his Judge John Deed co-star Jenny Seagrove as his long-suffering wife.
His agent Roger Charteris said he had gone on at the Severn Theatre despite feeling ill because he did not want to let people down.
The production is currently on a national tour, before opening in the West End on October 6.
Shaw will return to the play as it moves to Milton Keynes Theatre.
