Ed Sheeran posted a photo of himself with a baby while making the admission on social media.

The 22-year-old singer has been linked to a string of female celebrities, including good pal Taylor Swift, and most recently, Ellie Goulding.

Despite recently acknowledging he's called it quits with Ellie, Ed appears to be strongly considering his future as a father.

The British star took to Twitter at the weekend to express his feelings as he captioned a photo of himself holding a fan's baby.

"Gettin' broody," he confessed.

The candid message follows a few days after Ed admitted the true nature of his connection with Ellie.

The singers sparked romance rumours after they were spotted holding hands on camera at last month's MTV Video Music Awards.

Speaking to American radio station Click 98.9, Ed confirmed: "Normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends," while adding that the pair are no longer an item.

"It was going on. And now it's not," he revealed.

Ed has also laughed off rumours of any romantic relationship with tourmate Taylor Swift, and had a chuckle at a recent article that dubbed him a "studly womaniser".

"The whole 'studly womaniser' thing, I mean, I quite enjoy the title - it's just not very accurate," he told Click.

"If you can find a picture of me and Taylor holding hands, you won't be able to, because it doesn't exist. That's just people making assumptions because I was on tour with her."
