Sheeran: I don’t do drunk dialling
Ed Sheeran prefers chatting face-to-face to using a phone.
The British musician is known for being close to many other stars, among them Pharrell Williams and Courteney Cox. He's never embarrassed himself by getting too forward when he's had a few drinks though.
"No. I don't really like talking on the phone. I find I'd much rather do face-to-face," he told British magazine Heat.
As well as having many A-list pals, Ed is on good terms with some less mainstream people. Drum and bass DJ Goldie has been in his phonebook for years and gave him some of the best advice he's ever received when he released his debut record + in 2011.
"I've been in touch with him since 2009 and the week my first album came out, he called," Ed remembered. "He's a very, very elusive character, and he rang me out of the blue and he's like, 'You bought a house yet?' And I said, 'No.' And he was like, 'Buy a house!' And I was like, 'OK.'"
The friendship with Pharrell came about after the pair worked on tracks for Ed's latest release, x. Among the songs they laid down was Sing, which has been a smash hit. Ed is amazed by that, as initially it was the track he was most concerned about, as he worried it was "a bit experimental".
"It took Pharrell discarding it then, ten minutes later, me absentmindedly playing the riff for the song and him looking at me like, 'Look, it's catchy enough that you're already playing the riff after only listening to it once,'" he recalled.
