Sherlock star Cumberbatch top of EastEnders producer's wanted list

Benedict Cumberbatch is wanted by the boss of EastEnders.

The soap's executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, who appeared in a school play with the Hollywood star, said he would be his dream actor to appear in the BBC show.

Asked at the Radio Times Festival about fantasy casting , Mr Treadwell-Collins said: "I want Ben Cumberbatch to come and do a turn."

The soap supremo appeared in a school production of Shakespeare's As You Like It with the Sherlock heartthrob.

He said he remembered running up to his mother at the end of the play and asking her if he was any good. He said she replied: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were fine ... That's an actor" - referring to Cumberbatch.

Mr Treadwell-Collins joked that Cumberbatch is "slightly busy" at the moment. He is currently starring in Hamlet at the Barbican in London.
