Sherlock tops 2012's TV ratings

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in Sherlock

Sherlock has been been voted the top TV show of 2012.

The sleuth drama, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, beat US thriller Homeland in the Radio Times poll.

Twenty Twelve, the mockumentary following the team behind the 2012 Olympics, is third, followed by Armando Iannucci's political satire The Thick Of It.

The top 10, voted for by writers and critics, was completed by student drama Fresh Meat, Danish political thriller Borgen, The Great British Bake Off, Downton Abbey, The Bridge and Sky show Girls.

RadioTimes.com editor Tim Glanfield said: "Sherlock delivered the TV event of the year with three perfect episodes. Nothing got people talking more than that cliffhanger series finale".
