Sienna Miller: Sexism makes me furious
Sienna Miller is passionate about her fight against how the media portrays women.
The British star has enjoyed a career resurgence of late, after taking time out of the limelight to start a family with her fiancé Tom Sturridge. They welcomed daughter Marlowe in July 2012, and now Sienna is pouring her efforts into her movie career.
While she's happy to be back on the red carpet, Sienna is still seething about last year's photo hacking scandal, where famous women saw their intimate pictures splashed across the internet.
"It's disgusting. It's completely unfair. I've been really litigious in my fight against it [how women are portrayed in the media]. That is blatant sexism in some of the greatest newspapers in the world. It's just perpetuating this myth that women are a bit sl*tty. It makes me more angry than anything," Sienna fumed to British magazine Time Out London.
Sienna's personal relationship with the media, specifically waiting paps, has changed a lot in the last few years.
"That's all gone [the predatory paparazzi]. That went a long time ago because I sued and got an injunction against paparazzi so I don't have anyone in London [chasing me]. That's meant I've managed to have a normal life and finally shake off the perception that was fuelled by those sort of photographs. And I can just be a mother and do my job, which is all I ever wanted to do," she sighed.
The 33-year-old can next be seen in American Sniper, opposite Bradley Cooper. The film is based on the true story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle who found it hard to adjust to normal life after completing a tour of duty in Iraq.
It was shot by Clint Eastwood, who Sienna loved working with.
"Clint doesn't meet actors [to audition]. He feels like if he did, he'd cast them all because he remembers how agonising that audition process is. He famously only casts off tape. So I went and it was a 20-minute audition, and I left and felt bad about it but somehow it worked out.
"I didn't meet him until I flew out to LA to start shooting. He's just the most charming, handsome, charismatic figure. I was slightly speechless," she gushed.
