Sienna Miller to play Sally Bowles
Sienna Miller will replace Emma Stone as Sally Bowles in the current Broadway production of Cabaret.
The 33-year-old actress will take over the highly sought after role of Sally Bowles from current star Emma Stone on February 17. She will take the stage for six weeks until the scheduled end of the Broadway show’s run on March 29.
The news was reported by the Roundabout Theatre Company, responsible for staging the New York City production. They announced they were “thrilled” to have Sienna in the coveted role, which was originally played by stage goddess Liza Minnelli.
Sienna will star opposite Alan Cumming, who plays Emcee, as well as Linda Emond and Danny Burstein. Sam Mendes has the directing reins.
When this incarnation of Cabaret began in April 2014, My Week With Marilyn star Michelle Williams took on the lead role. Emma took over on November 11, and was thrilled to do so.
“It’s unusual for young actresses to get such completeness in a role,” Emma told Vanity Fair in December. “Sally is vulnerable, tragic, funny, unlikable, heartbreaking. And then she gets whacked across the face with an epiphany. I don’t think I’ve ever been so truly obsessed with a character or a story. I can’t believe this is actually happening!”
With Emma’s run finishing on February 1, Sienna will step into her shoes. It’s not the blonde beauty’s first time on stage, either. She has previously performed in Patrick Marber’s After Miss Julie as well as Flare Path by Terence Rattigan.
It makes for a sizeable beginning to Sienna’s 2015, to match a substantial 2014. She can currently be seen in Clint Eastwood’s Oscar tipped film American Sniper.
