Simon Cowell is reportedly worried he could end up "old and lonely".
Earlier this month, the music mogul was forced to deny that he had suffered a "breakdown" during the year after his hectic work schedule took its toll. However, he did admit that he has "a lot going on" and may take some time out next year to relax and focus on his personal life.
"Simon has come through a really tough time," a source told UK magazine Closer. "He's been under a lot of pressure with the US X Factor and started freaking out over whether he's going to end up old and lonely."
The 52-year-old TV star has been spotted spending time with his former fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy recently. It has been suggested Simon has turned to Mezhgan for support during this stressful period in his life.
"Mezhgan was the one who stepped forward to help him," the source added. "Mezhgan still seems to have feelings for Simon and he has only truly ever been settled with her."
