Simon Cowell tops TV rich list

Simon Cowell has retained his crown as the king of TV, after coming top of a list of highest earning TV personalities.

The TV mogul behind The X Factor and the Got Talent shows continues his reign on the small screen in the US, beating chat show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres in the poll compiled by Forbes.com.

While Simon, who is reported to be fathering a child with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, is a judge on the American version of The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, his work behind-the-scenes with his ownership stakes in those two franchises and his Syco record label - whose signings include One Direction and Leona Lewis - boosted his earnings to an estimated 95 million US dollars (£61 million) in the past 12 months from June 2012 to June 2013.

Shock jock Howard Stern took the joint top spot with Simon, with his work on his SiriusXM radio show and being a judge on America's Got Talent contributing to his salary.

US talk show host Glenn Beck came third, followed by chat show queen Oprah and Dr Phil McGraw taking the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Donald Trump, who stars in the US version of The Apprentice, American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest and Ellen all appear in the top 10, alongside Judy Sheindlin and Rush Limbaugh.
