Media mogul Simon Fuller, who helped guide the Spice Girls to global stardom, is to receive an honorary degree.

Fuller, who has also managed figures including David Beckham, Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton, will gain a Doctor of Letters from the University of Brighton.

He has built up a £382 million fortune from a career which has seen him build up the Pop Idol franchise, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

Hastings-born Fuller, whose grandfather was a headmaster in the East Sussex seaside town, will receive his doctorate on July 31 at the summer graduation awards at the Brighton Dome.

A spokesman for the university said the honour was in recognition of his "major contribution to business, entrepreneurship and philanthropy".

Your Horoscopes by Russell Grant

It's sometimes difficult for a retiring person like you to showcase your talent. You are tired of being eclipsed by pushy rivals. By showing your work to the right people, you can finally gain the fame and acclaim you deserve. Fortunately, an influential friend, neighbour or colleague can set up an interview or introduction. An important executive or critic will be impressed by your efforts. If you're offered an unpaid position as an intern or apprentice, take it. This will lead to professional opportunities you couldn't find through other channels.More
