Smith already wants Doctor return

Matt Smith has already been angling for a return to Doctor Who even though his successor Peter Capaldi's first series hasn't even started.

The actor left the Doctor role last year, after appearing alongside David Tennant and John Hurt's incarnations of the Time Lord in the 50th anniversary episode in November and told the Calgary Expo he was keen to repeat the experience.

According to Radio Times, he said: "I'm just waiting for the next anniversary. I spoke to Steven (Moffat, show runner) the other day and said 'What's the quickest one we can do?'

"I love the idea of other Doctors coming back. Also that gives me the opportunity to come back, which I totally will by the way."

Peter is currently filming his first series as Doctor Who, which is due to air on BBC One later this year.
