Top Northern Ireland rockers Snow Patrol have received the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage from Trinity College Dublin's prestigious Philosophical Society - the 'Phil'.

The five musicians from the hugely successful band received their medals in the historic Trinity College Chapel.

The 'Phil' is Trinity's premier student society.

It was founded in 1684 for the discussion of polite literature.

Recent guests and speakers have included Angela Merkel, John McCain, and Helen Mirren.
