Somerhalder: I didn’t succeed alone

Ian Somerhalder thanks agent for standing by him for more than a decade.

The 35-year-old actor scored his first big break with a role in hit US television drama Lost back in 2004.

Ten years later, the Vampire Diaries star can’t believe how well his career has gone. But he admits he hasn’t gotten there on his own.

“There are many people whom have worked their a**es off to get me here(where ever i am) I love these people-thank you. What an amazing ride,” he tweeted on Saturday (sic).

The message followed not long after Ian congratulated his longtime agent, Craig Shapiro, who recently celebrated his birthday.

The actor said Craig has been like a “big brother to me”, and couldn’t imagine where he’d be without him.

“…My agent @ ICM for 16 years-guided my career,has a birthday today!Im grateful man-Happy Birthday @cohiba711,” Ian wrote (sic).

In addition to his work on Vampire Diaries, Ian also stars this summer in sci-fi drama The Anamoly.

But the actor has far more than his acting career going for him.

He founded the Ian Somerhalder Foundation in 2010 to "empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures", according to the organisation's website.

Ian revealed last year saving animals and the environment are his biggest passions.

"I've already collected more than $6 million in donations to build a new animal shelter," he told German magazine Bravo.

“It's so important to mobilise people, because they are our future."
