Sophie rehearsing for Strictly

Sophie Ellis-Bextor said she didn't initially jump at the chance to appear in the Strictly Christmas special.

The singer returns for the festive one-off after coming fourth last year.

She said: "I had such a perfect run last year and to get to the final was an amazing achievement and something I never imagined I'd do, so when they approached me about doing the Christmas show, I thought I had such a perfect time last time, I'm not sure if I want to jinx it."

But she said that the realised that the pressure would be off.

"The Christmas show is a different kind of entity because you haven't got any pressure. You're not worrying about being invited back next week; it's a one-off, hopefully entertaining, show so I don't think any of us are thinking about who's going to win," she said.

Sophie said of rehearsing for the show: "I haven't had as much time as I probably would have normally, because I'm dancing with Aljaz Skorjanec and we've both had things going on, so we've done a few days. But it was really fun - he's a very relaxed teacher".

She said of the current series: "It's just been really nice not to have to watch it with that nervousness that I used to have on a Saturday night!"
