Sparks’ advice to younger self
Jordin Sparks has encouraged fans to work hard for whatever it is they want in life.
The No Air singer became the youngest-ever winner of American Idol when she won the singing contest at the age of 17. Now 24 and with millions of record sales and award nominations under her belt, Jordin has revealed what she would tell herself at that key life moment.
“I’d say: ‘You’re on the right track; don’t doubt so much,’” she said on US chat show The View. “And for the fans, if there’s anything you want to do in life, it does require hard work.”
It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the singer, as it was announced in September her engagement to fellow musician Jason Derulo had ended after two years together. But Jordin has focused on her career to get her through her tough times and reiterated during her appearance how important it is to take your goals seriously.
“Be kind to people, show up on time - practice, practice, practice - and do your research if that’s what your respective field requires,” she added. “But if you’re going to do it, make sure it’s what you want to do and tackle it head on.”
The Tattoo singer has released two albums but has been working on her latest music since 2010. But she recently teased her new material is not far away.
“New music is coming sooner than you think," she told buddytv.com. "At beginning of this year I told myself I wouldn't amp anything up. I didn't wanna build up expectations and then not deliver. We wanna put something out before end of this year. I'm doing more collaborations - I'm excited about that!"
