Sparks gives Derülo 'proposal guidelines'

Jordin Sparks and Jason Derülo

Jason Derülo has hinted he will propose to Jordin Sparks via a song.

The two singers have been dating for around 18 months and have made no secret of their plans to tie the knot. They became especially close after Jason suffered an injury while preparing for his tour, resulting in a broken neck. Jordin nursed him through the injury and he is adamant she is the perfect person for him.

"I have a date in mind. I want to surprise her, but she's given me guidelines first. I have to ask her dad for permission!" he laughed to National Enquirer.

The star hinted he might have an extra special proposal in mind. He has penned a tune called Marry Me, which it's thought he might sing as he gets down on one knee.

Jordin was close to Whitney Houston, who passed away last year. The two women appeared alongside each other in the movie Sparkle and the younger star was devastated when Whitney died.

Jason helped her come to terms with her grief and that is one of the reasons she knows he is her Mr. Right.

"You really see the people you love and you go, ‘I don't want to lose you.’ So, it's a conversation we have, but we're not in a rush,” she explained last year.

"I hope he does [ask me to marry him]! It's not happening yet, but I hope so!"
