Steve Jones has recorded a video message introducing himself to audiences of the US X Factor as "a shoulder to cry on".
The presenter is not yet known in the US but is due to become a huge star there after landing the prestigious gig.
Introducing himself in the video, he says: "I'm from the small mining community in south Wales called the Rhonnda Valley. I'm 6ft 4, 200 lbs, I like walks in the park, and reading."
He goes on to say what his role on the new show will be, saying: "I'm the host, I gel everything together, link it all, make it flow nice and smoothly but ultimately I'm there for the contestants, I'm there for the acts, I'm a shoulder to cry on. I'm the one championing these people which is great but it can be tough, I'm with them from the start and a lot of them don't make it.
"When they don't go through they're devastated and I have to be there to pick up the pieces."
Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and LA Reid are on the judging panel of the new show. Cheryl Cole was due to be a judge but was dropped at the last minute amid rumours her Geordie accent was too strong for US viewers to understand.
