Stewart has Halloween outfit tips

Martha Stewart has revealed her tips for a successful Halloween costume as she stepped out in fancy dress for a seasonal event in LA.

The American celebrity chef and lifestyle guru sported a homemade fairy godmother outfit on the red carpet of the Hub Network's 1st Annual Halloween Bash, but teamed it with expensive Valentino shoes.

Waving her homemade wand, Martha said: "I'm the fairy Grand-Martha, I wanted to be an optimistic beautiful fairy.

"This is all made by hand, it's about 50 yards of inexpensive pink tulle with a handmade wand, this cost about 50 dollars. My Valentino shoes cost more."

The 72-year-old domestic diva, who famously served time in prison after a highly publicised stock trading trial, said there were a few keys to creating a great ensemble.

"It is creativity, construction, originality and when you're wearing it you have to feel like the part. Every year I have a fabulous costume and that becomes my favourite at the time."

With 10 days to go until Halloween, Martha said she is looking forward to handing out sweets.

"I have to work during the day but I am with the children at night, with the trick or treaters handing out candy."
