Strictly fans anger after injured Tameka Empson is sent home
Tameka Empson was the second celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night (09Oct16), after competing in the dance-off alongside Laura Whitmore.
Strictly Come Dancing fans were left fuming after Tameka Empson was sent home on Sunday night (09Oct16), despite competing in the dance-off with an injury.
The BBC talent show has been surrounded with controversy over the past couple of weeks, after Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom was the first famous face sent home. Despite singer Anastacia also being in the bottom two, an injury she sustained earlier meant she was unable to perform in the dance-off, leading to Melvin automatically being shown the door.
The network cited the show's rules as the reason for Anastacia's free pass, but after Tameka also suffered an injury, she wasn't given the same treatment - leading to anger among viewers.
One fan wrote on Twitter, "Why did Tameka have to compete in the dance off with her injury & Anastasia didn't? Hmm rules for one & rules for another. Unfair #strictly", while another added, "Gutted that Tameka left #strictly. shocking that someone who refused to dance gets to stay and she dances through injury and leaves."
The EastEnders star revealed she had suffered a back injury, telling host Tess Daly before the dance off with Laura Whitmore: "My back injury ain't gonna hurt me this time, I'm gonna hurt it!"
After being voted off by the judges, Tameka then did a somewhat defiant lap of the dance floor with a knee brace clearly on show.
Following the controversy, a source told The Daily Mail Online: "Every injury or strain experienced whilst participating in the show is of course completely unique. Tameka wore a knee brace and was deemed able to dance in the dance off this week, as was the other celebrity in the dance-off, Laura who had sustained a number of bruises and knocks in training."
Among the controversial stars voted through to next week's show are Anastacia, who thanked fans for giving her a second chance, and former politician Ed Balls.
