Strictly winner heads to West End
Kara Tointon is to make her West End debut after being cast as Eliza Doolittle in an acclaimed production of Pygmalion.
The former EastEnder will star alongside Rupert Everett in the play which will open at London's Garrick Theatre in May.
The celebrated George Bernard Shaw play sees Professor Higgins (Everett) attempt to pass off Cockney flower girl Doolittle as a society lady.
The production will transfer from Chichester Festival Theatre where it has already proved a success, with Strictly Come Dancing star Kara joining the cast.
Her Strictly co-star Tina O'Brien - a guest at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards - said: "That is great news. She will make the best Eliza, she will be brilliant."
Kara, the reigning Strictly champ, played Albert Square's Dawn Swann for four years.
And she recently took part in the BT Red Nose Desert Trek, raising money for Comic Relief by hiking across the Kaisut Desert in Kenya.
