Styles twerks at Teen Choice bash

Harry Styles has stolen the spotlight at the Teen Choice Awards after agreeing to twerk.

The ceremony hosts, Glee star Darren Criss and Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale, persuaded the One Direction star to stand up and shake his booty for the cameras. Twerking means dancing in a sexually suggestive manner by twisting the hips.

Ed Sheeran, who was sitting next to Harry, and 1D bandmate Zayn Malik, who was in the row behind, were both in hysterics as the singer bent over and shook his behind. Despite the move only lasting three seconds it was soon trending on social networking sites and inspiring mash-up videos.

A red-faced Harry later tweeted: "Note to self, don't 'twerk'."

Rebel Wilson, who chose to make One Direction the butt of one of her controversial jokes of the evening, which was muted by show bosses, later revealed backstage that Harry was her favourite member of the band.

Ashton Kutcher received the Ultimate Choice Award and after joking: "Let's be brutally honest. This is the old guy award," said he wanted to impart some life-lessons to his younger fans.

"The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart and being thoughtful and being generous," he said.

And Django Unchained star Kerry Washington tried to use the evening to encourage young people to take part in elections, after a record 150 millions votes were cast for the awards this year. "Tonight means your vote matters," she said on stage while presenting an award.
