Swift: My actions ripple
Taylor Swift discusses her influence on young girls with Barbara Walters.
The 24-year-old pop star is known for her good girl persona.
Speaking to US newswoman Barbara Walters during a taping for the journalist’s annual TV special The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014, Taylor opened up about why she feels it’s important other young women have positive influences to look up to in entertainment.
"I put every one of my actions through a filter before I do them because that's the way my life is," she explained. “If that story gets out or some ten-year-old sees that I did that in a news article, like my actions do have ripples,” she added of a hypothetical tabloid scandal.
That doesn’t stop the star from indulging from time to time. Taylor, who will celebrate another birthday Saturday, the day before the segment fully airs, acknowledged she is old enough to have alcohol. But she insists she never took advantage of her celebrity status to get under the influence, despite rising to fame with her debut album eight years ago.
"Well I do drink, I'm 25,” she said. “But I did wait until I was 21 because I was worried about getting into trouble.”
Also featured on Barbara’s 10 Most Fascinating People will be Scarlett Johansson, who the journalist reveals will open about about life as a new mum.
The actress, who welcomed daughter Rose September 4, gushes about her new role.
"It's wonderful," she says. "It's very magical and exhausting."
