Taylor copied real-life barristers

Georgia Taylor has said she prepared for her role in Law And Order: UK by attending real-life murder trials.

The former Casualty and Coronation Street actress will appear as barrister-turned-Crown-Prosecutor Kate Barker in the crime series.

She said: "I watched a murder trial from the public gallery. There was a glass screen in front of us and they played everything through speakers - I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't watching TV.

"They weren't waving their hands around and shouting. They were just confident, competent and clear. So I tried to do that with Kate."

The new role marks a departure from her last long-running part as Casualty doctor Ruth Winters.

Georgia said: "I spent four years on Casualty playing a doctor, who was very cold and controlled, so I was hooked by Kate, who's so different - she's scatty, warm and a little mischievous. Yes, I do love playing professional women."

:: Law & Order: UK returns to ITV tonight (July 14).
