Thaw admits name helped her get job

John Thaw starred in TV drama Inspector Morse

Abigail Thaw says she can't deny that her surname helped her grab a role in TV series Endeavour.

The actress is the daughter of the late actor John Thaw, who played detective Inspector Morse for 13 years until 2000.

Abigail, who stars as newspaper editor Dorothea Frazil in the new series of ITV drama Endeavour, about Morse's early life, told the Daily Mirror: "Of course I knew it was because of my name - I'm not stupid!

"But I've been an actor for long enough now not to feel that's something to be ashamed of, so I jumped at the chance."

Abigail auditioned for the part of a murderer in Inspector Morse when her father was still in the role, but didn't tell him.

"I didn't get the job - it was deeply humiliating," she told the newspaper.
