The Last Five Years: Actors not backward in musical romance

This is a disarmingly entertaining affair. A breathless, 90-minute two-hander, Jason Robert Brown's musical romance sees upcoming novelist Jamie and struggling actress Cathy relate their relationship through song.

The twist is that he tells it from beginning to end, while she works backwards, and the characters meet just once on stage, at their wedding.

Belfast-based Blunt Fringe Productions has snagged two very appealing actors in the shape of Dungannon's Fra Fee and Amy Lennox, from Aberdeen. Each delivered the challenging material with passion and verve.

Director Stephen Whitson's creative take on this modern musical theatre staple is smart and unusual, but it never eclipses the material.
