The Newsroom cast launch series 2

Dev Patel and his castmates from The Newsroom hit the red carpet to launch series two of the show.

Slumdog Millionaire star Dev was joined by his co-stars John Gallagher Jr, Alison Pill, Olivia Munn, Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston and Thomas Sadoski at the event.

Creator Aaron Sorkin also attended the premiere at the Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles.

Drama The Newsroom takes a behind-the-scenes look at the staff of a cable news network, the stories they cover and their relationships.

Season two is said to focus mainly on a lawsuit about wrongful termination, as well as Jim (John) leaving the office to cover the Romney campaign.

Viewers can also expect more from the will they/won't they relationship between Will (Jeff) and MacKenzie (Emily Mortimer).

Maggie (Alison) is expected to go off the rails this season as Jim is away from the newsroom and Don (Thomas) is heading towards a relationship with Sloan (Olivia).

The Newsroom's second series is set to air on HBO from July 14.
