Theron ‘demands equal pay’
Charlize Theron has supposedly ensured she gets paid as much as her male co-stars for work in The Huntsman.
The Academy Award-winning actress is preparing to begin filming Universal Pictures movie The Huntsman opposite Chris Hemsworth, a prequel to 2012 hit fantasy action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman.
And in light of the Sony email hacking scandal, Charlize has apparently ensured she receive fair and equal compensation for her work.
“Charlize insisted that she get paid the same money as Chris,” a source told Page Six, noting she has a contract in place worth over $10 million for The Huntsman. “She has a great track record, so she got the same deal.”
A leaked exchange between Sony execs showed Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams being paid less than their American Hustle co-stars, a gender-biased practice rumoured to have been a Hollywood standard for decades.
It’s claimed a new trend is emerging in which actresses are insisting they get paid the same as male castmates in light of recent events.
“One knock-on effect from the Sony hacking scandal is that there will be more sensitivity about equal pay for actresses and hiring practices at movie studios,” the insider noted.
Charlize recently admitted she’s a tough cookie sometimes.
Asked which of the seven deadly sins she feels reflects her the most, she confessed there is one in particular that often gets in the way.
“I’m probably guilty of all of them, but I do think I have a sense of pride that sometimes gets in the way,” she said in a chat with the US edition of Marie Claire magazine’s 20 Questions column.
Charlize can next be seen in the upcoming reboot Mad Max: Fury Road – a role for which she shaved her head.
She also finished filming drama The Last Face, directed by her boyfriend Sean Penn.
