Tom Cruise desires to be called ‘Cage’
Apparently Tom Cruise has required that the cast and crew of the movie he’s currently shooting, All You Need Is Kill, refer to him as “Cage”, his character’s name.
In the sci-fi film, Tom plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage – an officer who has never seen live combat and is handed a dangerous mission to defeat a deadly alien race called Mimics.
Tom fully embraces his character and prefers to be called “Cage” by cast and crew on set.
Although the behaviour may invite derision, Tom is confident in his method.
“Tom doesn’t care what people think,” a source told British newspaper The Sun.
“He’s so focused on doing the best possible job on the movie and has used the same tactics in previous roles.
“Because he’s Tom Cruise, everybody follows orders. He’s a legend to them.”
The actor has spoken previously about how much effort he puts into depicting personas.
“People do say no, but as an actor you bring everything, physically and emotionally, to a character,” he explained to British talk show host Graham Norton over the holidays.
Tom stars alongside Emily Blunt, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Bill Paxton in director Doug Liman’s upcoming alien action movie.
All You Need Is Kill is released in US theatres March 7, 2014.
