Tom Cruise is said to be totally smitten with his assistant.

The action star has been linked to his assistant Emily Thomas for months. He was first rumoured to be flirting with her on the set of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation last November.

The romance seems to have heated up recently, and sources close to the actor say they're the perfect match.

"Tom has come to rely on Emily. She's very smart and always one step ahead of him. Tom has made it clear to his team that he wants Emily with him on all projects. She knows how to handle him and never gets stressed; she's always calm and kind," an insider told the American edition of OK! magazine.

"[He's] clearly happier when Emily is around. No matter how long the workday is, they're always laughing and having fun."

At 22 Emily is 31 years Tom's junior, but that doesn't seem to have any impact on their budding romance.

In fact Tom's friends reportedly think the pair could go the distance.

"Tom is totally smitten with Emily. He adores her. No one who knows him would be surprised if he proposed," the source shared.

Tom got down on one knee to ex-wife Katie Holmes after two months of dating. The engagement came less than a month after Tom made his infamous sofa jumping appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show where he declared his love for the actress. The pair have nine-year-old daughter Suri together.

Tom was also married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, who he has adopted children Isabella and Connor with.
