Tom Hardy 'welcomes child'

Legend star Tom Hardy's wife Charlotte Riley has reportedly given birth.

Actor Tom Hardy and his wife Charlotte Riley have reportedly welcomed their first child together.

The pair only unveiled their pregnancy news last month (Sep15), at the premiere of Tom's latest flick Legend, with Charlotte showing off her huge bump in a figure hugging black dress. Now MailOnline reports the pair's new arrival is here, though it's not yet known if the tot is a son or daughter.

Tom and actress Charlotte met on the set of 2009's Wuthering Heights, becoming engaged the following year. They tied the knot in July 2014 without much fanfare, with both refusing to comment if they'd actually made it down the aisle. However, Charlotte did open up about her spouse earlier this year (15), gushing about how well trained the movie hard man is at home.

"He's great around the house,” Charlotte told the Herald Scotland. “We do designated things. I love recycling. He's good at making the bed. It works brilliantly."

Tom is already a father to son Louis, seven, from his previous relationship with Rachael Speed. In the past he has credited fatherhood with saving him from a life of addiction. He may be at the top of his game now but 38-year-old Tom's life could have turned out very differently at one point, as he battled addictions to alcohol and crack cocaine.

"I had no idea how to handle the industry, to interact with producers, executive producers, studios… I was 24 – punching above my weight," he previously told Britain's Metro newspaper.

"And it’s taken being someone’s dad, being divorced, going to rehab, having mortgages, playing different characters, doing theatre, waiting and then it not happening."

He also touched on the topic with Britain's Hello! magazine, opening up about what it means to be a dad.

"Being a father has given me the kind of purpose that makes you think more carefully about how you live your life," he said. "I made a lot of mistakes and I put my mum and dad through a lot because they were so worried about me.

"I take great pride in being a father and make sure I'm there for him and helping him as he makes his way in the world."
