Tompkinson: Poslethwaite 'so good'

Stephen Tompkinson will be back on our screens in DCI Banks

Stephen Tompkinson says he's still influenced by the late actor Pete Postlethwaite.

The pair met on the set of 1996 film Brassed Off, which made Stephen a household name.

"I always think of Pete," he said of the actor, who died of cancer last year.

"He was so good. He had the best economy of truth I think than any actor I've worked with."

Stephen, who stars in ITV1 drama DCI Banks, added: "I always try and think, 'What would Pete do at this moment?'. I'm not as good as him, I never will be, but I do keep trying."

:: DCI Banks begins on ITV1 on Wednesday, October 10
