Torvill: I'd like Beckham on ice!

Jayne Torvill would like to see David Beckham on the ice

Jayne Torvill reckons her dream contestant for Dancing On Ice would be David Beckham.

The former Olympic ice dance champion - back with partner Christopher Dean for the latest series of the hit ITV1 skating show - reckons the footballer could make his mark on the ice.

She said: "I think David Beckham should have a go," before joking: "He could use it to raise his profile!"

The skating heroes have been putting a new batch of celebs through their paces in training, and have been impressed by what they've seen so far.

Chris said: This year's going to be good, we're going to see some amazing stuff."

Jayne added: "You never know when they get in front of an audience and the cameras how they're going to respond, but already we're seeing one or two starting to shine from the group.

"Others are struggling a little bit more, but having said that, in their own personal journeys, they've improved even in the few weeks that they've been training."

Asked how they would feel if the show gets a Wagner or an Ann Widdecombe equivalent, who'll capture the voters' hearts while failing to impress the judges, Chris said: "I think that's the beauty of the interactivity of these shows, that they can be dictated by the audience."
