Tracie Bennett has confessed her embarrassment at having to sing badly on TV show Scott And Bailey.

The former Coronation Street star plays copper Rachel Bailey's nightmare estranged mum Sharon in the ITV crime show, who performs a dodgy song at her wedding.

Tracie - who won awards for her portrayal of Judy Garland on Broadway - told the TV Times: "I couldn't be too good, otherwise Sharon would be on The X Factor, so my voice had to be a bit off. It was harder than singing nicely!

"It's really brave because my friends will tell me I sound rubbish."

The 51-year-old blonde also had to make herself look awful for the role.

She revealed: "I had to dye my hair dark to match Suranne [Jones, who plays Bailey] but they wanted to leave the grey roots in.

"We were filming in December and I thought to myself, 'What am I going to do over Christmas? Everyone's going to think I've aged!'."
