TV gongs for Deeley and Sherlock

Cat Deeley accepts her gong at the Critics' Choice Television Awards in LA

BBC sleuth drama Sherlock, its star Benedict Cumberbatch and TV presenter Cat Deeley have won top gongs at a US awards ceremony.

Sherlock was named best miniseries, while its star Benedict, took home the award for best actor in a miniseries.

Cat, who has enjoyed huge success working in the United States, was crowned best reality show host at the Critics' Choice Television Awards, for So You Think You Can Dance.

Homeland, the acclaimed thriller starring British actor Damian Lewis, was named best drama series at the awards in Los Angeles.

Old Etonian Damian's co-star, US actress Claire Danes, was named best actress in a drama series for her role as bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison.

Mad Men's Christina Hendricks won best supporting actress in a drama series for her role in the 60s-set US show.

While The Voice saw its ratings plummet in the UK, the US version won the reality series (competition) category.

Sherlock's Lara Pulver was nominated for best actress in a miniseries or movie for her eye-catching role as dominatrix Irene Adler in Sherlock, almost giving the British drama three wins.

But she was beaten to the gong by Julianne Moore for Game Change, the political drama featuring the actress as Sarah Palin.
