US Thick Of It picked up by HBO
The US version of The Thick Of It, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, has been commissioned for a series by HBO.
The comedy, titled Veep, stars the former Seinfeld actress as an ex-senator whose hopes for the vice president role are shattered once she lands in office, Variety reports.
Scottish satirist Armando Iannucci, also known for writing I'm Alan Partridge, took to Twitter to confirm the success of the pilot, writing: "And in other news, HBO have given us a series of Veep. I've been 'picked up' by Americans."
Veep will also star My Girl actress Anna Chlumsky, who appeared in In The Loop, the film version of The Thick Of It.
Iannucci will write, direct and be executive producer on the new series, which marks Julia's first return to a TV series since The New Adventures Of Old Christine.
