Van Morrison's the main man at 70 as EastSide Arts Festival gets under way

The EastSide Arts Festival kicks off today with scores of events for all the family to enjoy.

Running for 12 days from August 19-31, the Arts Council-supported event will include the much anticipated Cyprus Avenue gigs by Van Morrison to mark his 70th birthday on August 31.

Another highlight of the Belfast festival is Ciara O'Malley's mobile space project featuring her interactive caravan of art located at Connswater Pocket Park.

Also in the line-up is the Making It Up Story workshops at Skainos and storytelling at Short Strand Community Centre and Cregagh Library.

Craft fans are in for a treat as workshops with Redhead Thread running at Short Strand Community Centre and Belmont Tower.

The Orangefield Park Celebrations on August 29 are also expected to draw big crowds.

Organised by Connswater Community Greenway, there will be workshops, music, street theatre and more aimed at attracting all age groups.
