Vickery: Fern likes a bacon sarnie

Phil Vickery has revealed he still makes time to treat wife Fern Britton to the occasional breakfast in bed.

The TV chef and presenter Fern have been married for 14 years, after meeting on BBC Two show Ready Steady Cook. And though Fern, 57, has shed five stone after having a gastric band fitted in 2006, Phil revealed she is still partial to a bacon sarnie.

He said: "We're not big eaters, but she does love a bacon sandwich. I do whatever I'm told, I'm very obedient!"

The 53-year-old father-of-one and stepdad-of-three won a Michelin star as head chef at the Castle Hotel in Taunton, but now focuses on TV work and writing cook books.

And Phil admitted he sometimes misses his time at the "coalface" in restaurants.

"I think it's the camaraderie and the hitting that deadline twice a day, and your life is so rigidly set," he said.

"When I was a single man, it was fine, but I certainly wouldn't want to have done it as a married man, because you just wouldn't see your kids."

:: Phil is giving his support to Breakfast Week, which runs from January 25-31 and aims to get people enjoying morning mealtimes. For more information visit www.shakeupyourwakeup.com.
