Wahlberg and DiCaprio’s ‘basketball feud’
Mark Wahlberg recalls his experience falling out with Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1990s.
The 42-year-old Lone Survivor actor recalls heavily upsetting Leonardo just under 20 years ago.
Mark says the feud began on the basketball court and it got so bad Leonardo didn’t want to co-star with him in their 1995 drama The Basketball Diaries.
"Leonardo was like, 'Over my dead f**king body. Marky Mark's not going to be in this f**king movie,'" he recalled to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Because we'd had a thing - I didn't even realise it, [but] I was a bit of a d**k to him at a charity basketball game. So he was like, 'This f**king a*shole is not going to be in this movie.'"
But Mark claims Leonardo, 39, didn’t hold a grudge against him for too long.
Once they worked together at a reading for their movie The Basketball Diaries, they developed a deep bond.
"So I come in and I do the audition and I kind of look at him and he kind of looks at me," Mark recalled.
"And then we do a scene, and they're like, 'Hmm, this f**king dude's pretty good, right?' The next thing you know, boom, we're hanging out."
Leonardo has engaged in several basketball feuds in the past.
His celebrity pal George Clooney believes the Inception star must look like an easy target to his court opponents.
"The thing about playing Leo is you have all these guys talking sh*t," George, 52, told Esquire. "We get there, and there's this guy, Danny A I think his name is. Danny A is this club kid from New York. And he comes up to me and says, 'We played once at Chelsea Piers. I kicked your a*s.'"
