Alex Walkinshaw has admitted his first day on the set of Casualty was nerve-wracking.

The 37-year-old is making his debut as newest recruit, Nurse Adrian 'Fletch' Fletcher, in the BBC One drama.

"It's a massive show, it's been around for ages and it's an institution," he said.

"It's part of what our generation grew up watching, so it's important to treat it with the respect it deserves."

Alex, who played Insp Dale Smith in The Bill, said that, fortunately, he knew some of the cast members.

"It did take the pressure off because it meant that if I did have a panic I knew I could shoot off, find someone and say, 'I don't know what I'm doing'.

"And they'd go, 'You're right, you don't' and then I'd be all right again," he joked.

Your Horoscopes by Russell Grant

Capricorn:

Your dry humour will be very popular. It's always difficult bringing a large group of people together. Everybody feels like they are walking on eggshells. After cracking a few jokes, you'll put the group at ease. Resist the temptation to make fun of relatives, especially the more sensitive members of the group. Nobody likes feeling singled out. Watching a light hearted comedy can also be a great way to generate a festive atmosphere. This is a time when people can put their differences aside.More
