Washington a real-life Flight hero
Denzel Washington was a real-life hero to a flight attendant who became inconsolable during a patch of rough air.
The actor is up for an Oscar for his role in new movie Flight, about an investigation of a pilot's emergency landing which saves everyone on board.
And art imitated life somewhat for the actor when a crew member aboard a private flight became upset during some particularly bad turbulence.
"It was a private plane and I had to calm the flight attendant down! Really," he told Cover Media.
The woman was embarrassed to receive his help.
"She was like, 'Wow you're not supposed to be helping me!' She was a little upset," he explained.
Of course things went a little different for Denzel's character in the movie.
The investigation of pilot Whip Whitaker's landing leads to the discovery he had alcohol in his system during the catastrophe.
But even after filming scenes in which the plane goes down after an in-flight malfunction, the actor said he's no more afraid of flying.
"I have been on planes that have been struck by lightning and have hit some pretty rough air," he said, adding, "The time to worry about flying is when you're on the ground. When you're in the air, there's nothing you can do!"
