Washington: Tweeting hurts

Kerry Washington was so enthusiastic about tweeting her hands were in pain.

The Scandal actress was posting messages on her Twitter account at the same time show’s season three premiere was airing in the US on Thursday but her limbs began to ache while trying to keep up with fans, dubbed “Gladiators”.

“My fingers actually hurt from the Tweetathon yesterday,” Kerry laughed to Access Hollywood. “I was in the air – I was tweeting from above the clouds because I was in New York promoting the season premiere, but I had to get back for [an] event, so I was above the clouds tweeting our Gladiators!”

Thursday night’s instalment pulled in a whopping 10.5 million viewers and Kerry was thrilled with the outcome of her return to the small screen as tough-talking political “fixer” Olivia Pope.

“It really is amazing! I’m so happy that so many people caught up with the show on Netflix and with the DVD during our hiatus,” she said. “It feels like we were able to have a lot of new Gladiator converts.”

Even America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon has become a fan of the programme. His singer wife Mariah Carey shared that she had “got him hooked”.

“Mariah Carey tweeted last night that she converted Nick Cannon! Nick Cannon is now a Gladiator!” Kerry laughed.

However, Kerry isn’t sure whether President Barack Obama has had time to tune in.

“I do know that there are a lot of people at the White House who are watching [Scandal] but I do think President Obama has a lot more things on his plate right now with the government shutdown and the Affordable Care Act,” she revealed. “But maybe it’s on his TiVo.”
