Wentworth Miller attempted suicide as teen

Wentworth Miller was so unhappy at 15 that he tried to cut his life short.

The 41-year-old actor confessed to trying to take his own life while giving a speech at a charity dinner.

The former Prison Break star admitted to the sad occasion during a talk for the Human Rights Campaign in Seattle, Washington.

“The first time I tried to kill myself, I was 15,” he stated. “I waited until my family went away for the weekend. I was alone and I swallowed a bottle of pills.”

Wentworth explained that he soon changed his feelings towards life and got on with his studies as if nothing happened.

He isn’t sure of why he felt such conflict within himself as a youngster.

“I don’t remember what happened over the next couple of days, but I’m pretty sure come Monday, I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine,” he shared.

The star is adamant he wasn’t seeking attention at the time because he didn’t reveal details of the shocking event to anyone.

He maintains he was absolutely serious about wanting to die.

“When someone asks me if that was a cry for help, I say no. Because I’ve told no one,” he added. “You only cry for help if you believe there is help to calm you. And I didn’t need it, I wanted out… at 15.”

Wentworth came out as being gay in August when he turned down an invitation from a film festival in Russia.

He had faced speculation about his sexuality for some time, but previously denied the gossip before his attendance was requested at the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival.

Wentworth expressed his concern about the current situation for gay people in Russia.

He feels so strongly about the issue that he cannot imagine going to the country.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government,” he stated.
