Whitney Houston thrilled co-star
Whitney Houston "set the tone" with her jokes when filming Sparkle, says Jordin Sparks.
The two stars appear alongside each other in the movie, which was made shortly before Whitney's death earlier this year.
Jordin was nervous about working with such an iconic singer but knew they would get along as soon as they met.
"When we did the first read-through, she walked in and we all sat up straighter, so excited, and she just made it so comfortable," Jordin recalled to UK magazine Grazia. "She cracked a joke about not being able to see the lines without her glasses, so kept messing up the lines… it set the tone for the rest of us."
Sparkle is about three young women who form a girl group. Whitney was always on hand to give Jordin help when she had to sing on set.
"I remember filming my last scene, wearing this red dress, and Whitney sat watching me because she wanted to see everything," Jordin said. "She walked up on the stage, took my face in her hands and said, 'You were incredible. You are everything that we wanted."
