Whoopi Goldberg leaves Sister Act
Whoopi Goldberg has ended her run on stage hit Sister Act early after learning her mother had a stroke.
The actress has been a huge box office draw since joining the cast last month as Mother Superior in the West End version of her own hit movie.
Whoopi, 54, flew home on Friday morning after hearing about her mother Emma's condition.
She had been due to leave the production on Tuesday.
Producers said: "Ms Goldberg is very sorry not to be able to perform as planned and the thoughts and sincere best wishes of the producers and the entire Sister Act company are with her at this difficult time."
Her understudy will stand in until new actress Sally Dexter takes over the role.
The show continues until October 30 at the London Palladium.
Ticket-holders are being advised to contact their point of sale if they do not wish to see the scheduled show without her.
