Wilde: Aniston gave fame tips
Olivia Wilde "reached out" to Jennifer Aniston for advice about living in the public spotlight.
The 29-year-old actress knew Jennifer would be the right person to help her cope with living in the public spotlight. Having shot to fame in US TV show Friends and having several high-profile romances, Jennifer is used to hitting the headlines and was a great source of comfort.
“I reached out to Jen, who has, of course, been through the wringer, and I explained the situation and I said I needed advice on how to deal with these things," Olivia told the October issue of Allure magazine. "She wrote me one of the most gracious, wise emails describing her journey and really wonderful words of advice about how to deal with it. And in the end, I think I would do it all again exactly the same way.”
Olivia got to know Jennifer through her fiancé Jason Sudeikis, who is good friends with the 44-year-old star.
Although she is now adjusting to her celebrity status, Olivia has no interest in hitting the headlines thanks to her grounded upbringing.
“There was definitely a sense that no one was interesting because they were famous. They were interesting because of what they did. And that has stuck with me because when people say, ‘Oh, you’ve made it. Isn’t it great? You’re famous.’ I’m like, Ugh. That’s sort of a side effect," she explained. "It’s like the side effect of a medicine: ‘You may experience anal itching and fame.’”
Olivia also spoke out about the pressures of being a Hollywood star. She expressed her sympathy for people who are forced to follow a rigid diet in order to feel accepted in the industry.
“Fear of carbs, of gluten, of everything - we’ve distanced ourselves from the beauty of food, the art of it," she said. "It makes me sad when people say, ‘Oh, I don’t eat gluten. I don’t eat cheese. I don’t eat this. So I eat cardboard.’”
